Karen Humphris

I am a Registered Psychotherapist and an approved ACC Sensitive Claims provider. I have training in Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural, EMDR and Dialectical Behavioural therapies.I originally specialised in treatment for sexual abuse 16 years ago and then became interested in attachment. I have worked with many caregivers/parents and family dynamics. There can often be early traumas that have never been understood or worked through which can result in living life from these traumatic experiences/perspectives.

I enjoy working with couples which can also involve bringing insight to historical events that cause a couple to repeat early experiences without awareness. Couples often present for therapy when they feel helpless to improve their relationship. Couples/relationship therapy can also be useful to strengthen and develop an existing relationship or to end a relationship well.

I offer both long and short-term psychotherapy and work with a variety of issues including grief and loss, depression, anxiety disorders, relationships/attachment, family and parenting issues, stress, suicide, self esteem, sexual abuse, personality disorders, Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, addictions, (e.g. alcohol, pornography, inappropriate sexualised behaviours), sexual dysfunction, and personal growth/development.

I have been providing supervision to a range of health professionals for many years.
