I have around 20 years of counselling experience, having worked with a wide range of adults and couples in this time. I offer a variety of counselling styles to include all clients, catering for both short term and long term clients.
My passion is to provide a safe, caring, accepting relationship, where I can journey alongside you, to help bring effective change into your life. Therefore my counselling styles include strength based strategies for short term clients, emotion regulation approaches for anger, anxiety and depression, and then to journey more deeply with you for historical issues such as grief and trauma, that are impacting your ability to live life to the full.
My work with couples is based on Emotionally Focused Therapy, where I use a non- blaming and non- siding perspective, to bring understanding to the disconnect that happens between couples when they get caught in conflict, and stuck in patterns that keep past hurts from being resolved, in order to then build a safe, secure connection/ attachment between them.
If you’re not familiar with the process of counselling, you may be feeling vulnerable or anxious. I understand that; hence the need to create a safe environment, in order for you to feel comfortable and go at your own pace, so that you can complete the counselling journey in a way that is most helpful for you.
I am committed to on-going training, in order to further my practice. I am a member of New Zealand Christian Counsellors Association (MNZCCA) and work within their code of ethics. I enjoy working with people from any faith, or with no faith. I also bring my own life skills to my work, with being in my second marriage, and have personal experience of single parenting, grand parenting and blended families.
